Tom Lang

Organist/Choir Director

Tom‘s music experience began when he started piano lessons at age 5 and organ studies beginning at age 11. As a youngster, he attended Saint Mark’s Catholic Church school in Catonsville, MD, where he sang in the children’s choir and began playing the organ regularly for mass at age 12. He became Saint Mark’s Organist and Associate Director of Music, and then later Director of Music of the 2500 family parish. Following that endeavor, he became Music Director at Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church in downtown Baltimore and then served as Director at St. John’s Catholic Church in Westminster Maryland.

In 1999, Tom and his family moved to Connecticut where he became active in the music community in Simsbury.  He served as Director of Music at Simsbury United Methodist Church, and later at St Albans Episcopal Church.

While in Connecticut, Tom joined Joyful Noise, the nonprofit music organization responsible for the highly acclaimed children’s choir Chorus Angelicus, and the adult ensemble Gaudeamus, under the direction of Paul Halley, a grammy winning composer, organist, and conductor.  He sang with Gaudeamus and was a member of the Joyful Noise Board of Directors and served as Board Chairman.

During his time with Joyful Noise, Tom took part in several critically acclaimed recordings and performed in venues such as Lincoln Center in New York, Carnegie Hall, St. John the Divine, and venues throughout New England.

Tom and his wife Cindy returned to Maryland in 2017, and reside in Smithsburg MD, very close to Camp David in the Catoctin Mountains. They are both active as volunteers in Catoctin National Park and spend their time hiking, biking, enjoying the outdoors and traveling in their RV.

A lifelong member of the American Guild of Organists, Tom has also served as Dean of the Central Maryland Chapter and remains active in the musical scene in central and western Maryland.
